Your files stay on your device
The ITHMB Codec decoder runs entirely in your browser. Decoding is done
locally by the WebAssembly build of the open-source
Ithmb-Codec library
— your .ithmb and .ipm files never leave your
device, and nothing is uploaded by simply using the decoder.
Telemetry — strictly opt-in
Nothing is sent anywhere unless you click a Share or Report button on a decode card. Those actions help improve decoder support for real-world files. What each action sends:
- Share 16 bytes — the file's format prefix (first 16 bytes) plus its size and decode status.
- Share full file — the same metadata plus the file itself, so an unknown format can be analyzed.
- Report an issue — the metadata plus your chosen issue category and any detail you type.
Submissions are rate-limited, and IP-derived identifiers are pseudonymized with a keyed hash — your raw IP address is never stored.
What we don't do
- No cookies.
- No third-party trackers or analytics.
- No advertising.
- No account, no login, no personal data collected from you.
The only thing stored on your device is your language preference (localStorage), which never leaves your browser.
Open source
The decoder, the underlying codec, and this website are MIT-licensed and open source. You can read exactly what the telemetry worker does in the web repository.
Terms of use
This tool is provided as-is, without warranty of any kind. It is meant for recovering your own photos and thumbnails from your own devices. Because decoding happens locally, no content passes through our servers.
Organizations that need custom integration, volume conversion, or licensing can contact us via the enterprise page.
Changes
This page may be updated as the service evolves. Material changes are reflected in the repository history. Questions or concerns: open an issue on GitHub.
